Using reMarkable with a work or school Microsoft 365 account
The answer in 20 seconds
Both reMarkable’s OneDrive link and ReMarkSync work with work or school Microsoft 365 accounts, but your company may require IT approval first. ReMarkSync only asks for OneNote access, needs no OneDrive link on the tablet, and keeps your pages safe on your computer while approval is pending.
Sign in with your work account, pick a notebook in your work OneNote and choose what syncs. The setup is the same as with a personal account.
Microsoft asks for one extra OneNote permission, and your IT team may need to approve it once. Your pages wait safely on your computer meanwhile.
Why work accounts sometimes need approval
At work or school, your organization decides which apps may reach its Microsoft 365 data. That is normal security, not an error. When an app asks for access, Microsoft either lets you approve it yourself or shows an “approval required” screen first.
It can happen with both ways of moving reMarkable notes:
- reMarkable’s OneDrive link: some companies and universities ask staff to request access before they can link OneDrive on the tablet.
- ReMarkSync: the setup is the same as with a personal account. Only some notebooks, usually ones shared inside your organization, need one extra OneNote permission, and some organizations reserve that for an administrator.

What ReMarkSync asks for
When you sign in with Microsoft, ReMarkSync asks for three things. One more is asked only when a notebook needs it.
- At sign-inRead and write your OneNote notebooksTo create and update the pages it syncs.
- At sign-inSee your basic profileTo show which account is connected.
- At sign-inStay signed inSo sync keeps running without asking you again.
- Only if a notebook needs itAccess to all OneNote notebooks you can openFor some notebooks shared inside your organization. Asked only after you click Allow OneNote access, and never on a personal account.
- NeverYour password or your notesMicrosoft handles the sign-in. Your notes go from your computer straight to your Microsoft account.
What happens when a notebook needs approval
If your organization requires approval, ReMarkSync waits instead of failing. Here is what you see.
- ReMarkSync pauses the pageThe Dashboard shows "OneNote needs permission to continue". The page waits on your computer. Nothing is lost.
- You click Allow OneNote accessMicrosoft opens a secure window and asks you to approve once for this account.
- You approve, or IT doesSome organizations need an administrator to say yes first. Send them the note below.
- The pages continue on their ownYou approve once, not before every sync. Activity shows what synced.

The work and school accounts page in the User Guide shows each screen.
A note you can send to your IT team
Copy it, add your name, and send it to your IT team.
Hi, I would like to sync my reMarkable notes into my work OneNote with ReMarkSync, a desktop app for Windows and macOS. It signs in with Microsoft and asks for: read and write access to my OneNote notebooks, my basic profile, and staying signed in. For notebooks shared in our organization it may also ask for access to all OneNote notebooks I can open. My notes go from my computer straight to our Microsoft 365, not through the app’s servers. Could you approve the request? Details: remarksync.com/guides/remarkable-work-microsoft-365
If approval is not possible
You still have two ways to get your notes into OneNote.
Use your personal OneNoteSync to a notebook in your personal OneNote instead. Personal accounts never need the extra permission.
Export by handUse reMarkable’s export or email for the pages you need at work. It is manual, but it needs no extra access.
More than real ink
At work too, ReMarkSync brings the whole page, runs by itself, and is careful with your notes. Each point comes from the User Guide and the FAQ.
1 · Everything on the page arrives
Ink, PDF notes, text and folders
- Real ink in your pen colors, Paper Pro custom colors too.
- Annotated PDFs: the original page stays, and your pen notes sit on top as ink.
- Typed text stays text: headings, lists and to-dos you can edit and search.
- Your folders stay organized: folders become section groups, notebooks become sections.
2 · It runs by itself
New pages come along automatically
- Syncs when your notes change. No button to press. Unchanged pages are skipped.
- Auto for new notes: pick a notebook once, and its new pages are included. Turn it on for a folder or for all notes if you like.
- Long pages fit: a page too big for OneNote is split for you.
- Nothing on the tablet: no developer mode, no SSH, nothing to redo after an update.
3 · It takes care of your notes
Retries and recovers on its own
- Unfinished uploads are tried again, after a dropped connection or a restart.
- No duplicates: if OneNote's answer is unclear, the page is protected instead of copied twice.
- The latest version wins: if a page changes during an upload, the newest one is saved.
- You stay in control: archive, keep or delete removed pages. Activity shows every sync.
- Private by design: pages go from your computer straight to Microsoft, never through our servers.

Yes. ReMarkSync works with personal Microsoft accounts and with Microsoft 365 work or school accounts that have OneNote. Your organization’s normal sign-in steps, such as multi-factor authentication, still apply.
Does ReMarkSync need OneDrive?
No. ReMarkSync reads the notes that the reMarkable desktop app keeps on your computer and sends them to the OneNote notebook you choose. You do not need to connect OneDrive on the tablet.
What happens while I wait for IT approval?
ReMarkSync pauses the affected pages and keeps them on your computer. Nothing is lost. When the permission is approved, it continues. You can also choose another notebook that does not need the extra permission.
